Shippers Council’s Commodity Committee Interacts With Rice Farmers In Kebbi State

Members of the Commodity Committee of the Governing Board of Nigerian Shippers Council today held interactive session with leadership of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria RIFAN in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The Commodity Committee discussed a number of issues concerning Rice production and other value addition activities that can position Nigeria into the global rice export profile as soon as possible.

The meeting also enabled the leadership of the farmers to state problems affecting farmers and rice production generally including lack of adequate implements, incentives and farm applications.

Other matters discussed include the need to fast track export process by reducing cumbersome nature of documentation at Ports across the Country.

The meeting also discussed measures put in place by the Nigerian Shippers Council and Nigeria Export Promotion Council to promote Non Oil Exports as strategic option for Economic growth and development.

The Commodity Committee of the Shippers Council Board consists of Mr Lawal S Abdullahi, Hajiya Hauwa Muhammad, Mr John Aluya and Survey Lekan Adekambi with Dr Victor Iyama, Mr Olusegun Oyename,Alh Aliko Dangote , Mr Asite Avworanyire S, Mr Hope Yong and Mr Kassim Ahmed as Co-opted Members of the Committee while Mrs A V Okam serving as the Secretary with Mrs Juliana Saka and Mr Victor C Atuonwu Manning Secretariat of the Committee.

RIFAN Leadership at the meeting include : State Deputy Chairman Alh Muhammad Jabbo Umar, Alh Abdullahi MaiGandu, Alh Bello Barade while the National President of Federation of Agricultural Commodities Association of Nigeria FACAN Dr Victor Iyama was represented by Alh Abubakar Bagudu Dallatun Kalgo.

Kebbi State has been in the forefront of rice production recently as a result of the Federal Government’s diversification drive to feed the Nation and reduce the level of rice importation.

The meeting also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the diversification policy veered towards Agricultural revival and Non Oil Exports to address the Nation’s Economic imbalance.
