UK Organization trains 1,452 teachers in Kebbi

The Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu led administration has collaborated with Jolly Phonics, a United Kingdom (UK) based organization, to commence training of teachers in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Schools Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aleiro disclosed this at a meeting with News men in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

According to him, 1,452 primary school teachers and 122 Coaches and mentors across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State will be trained on handwriting and English language.

The training, which is ongoing, is taking place in three centres of Zuru, Birnin Kebbi and Argungu.

Speaking at Birnin Kebbi training centre, Alhaji Muhammadu stated that the methodology adopted by the UK organization, Jolly Phonics, was the same pattern of learning used in Nigeria.

He further said the training was to upskill teachers and keep them in the loop on global trends so they can teach the children to compete with colleagues from around the world.

Reacting, the Director Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and Desk Officer of Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Kebbi State, Alhaji Hassan Umar said the exercise would improve the literary level among the pupils with the training of trainers.

The Northern programme Coordinator for Universal Learning Solutions of Jolly Phonics,Umar Faruq Bello commended the trainees and trainers for complying with the COVID 19 Guidelines in the state and wish participants a productive session in training.

The state government had approved N233 million for the training.
