Sugarcane farmers and other stakeholders in Kebbi State have been urged to brace up to tap from the vast economic opportunities embedded in the proposed ultramodern Sugar Processing Plant in Lailaba District of Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council Dr Lateef D Busari represented by the North West Coordinator of the Council Mr MCJ Onyeigwe made the call today in Argungu at the Handing Over of Pre Feasibility Sites for Sugarcane Growing Areas to the project Consultants NDJ Nig LTD and Promoters Arewa – Kabi Investments Nig LTD for the commencement of feasibilities leading to full implementation of the Sugar Development initiative in the Area.
The Executive Secretary further disclosed that the Consultants and Promoters are mandated to come up with action packed feasibilities backed by timelines for the actualisation of the project.
He observed that the level of enthusiasm shown by the Kebbi State Government under the leadership of Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Emir of Argungu, Alh Samaila Muhammed Mera and members of the host Communities, the Council will leave no stone unturned to ensure it’s smooth implementation accordingly.
In his remarks, the Emir of Argungu Alh Samaila Muhammed Mera represented by Kararin Kabi Alh Umar Muhammed Mera welcomed the Sugar Development initiative promising to mobilise support from relevant stakeholders towards the overall success of the project.
The Emir further stated that opportunities provided by the project should be tapped by the Communities in the Emirate to better their lots.
On his part, Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area Alh Musa Muhammad Tungulawa assured that the Council will be supportive of these kind of Investments as they impact positively on the host Communities and the State in general.
Also Speaking the Chairman of Arewa – Kebbi Investments Nig Ltd (Promoters of the Sugar Project) Dr Usman Hassan Argungu represented by Mal. Abubakar Bagudu Kalgo expressed happiness over the development, describing it as timely response and an awesome complementation of the State Government’s economic diversification drive that will engage teeming number of farmers, youth and women groups as well as creating empowerment opportunities to thousands of people in the State.
He promised to work ascidiously in synergy with the host Communities and the Consultants to produce implementable feasibilities in order to justify the Confidence reposed on them.
Mallam Kalgo maintained that more Investment opportunities will continue to flood into the State due to open door policy of the present Administration as well as availability of stable power and proximity to sources of raw materials and peaceful atmosphere in the State.
The event was graced by the State Chairman of Rice Farmers Association Alh Muhammed Sahabi Augie, Alh Musa Najada, Alh Ahmed Yahaya Lailaba, Village Heads of Natsini and Lailaba and Alh Hamza Yeldu from FACAN.
Site inspection also took place at Natsini area where over 28,000 hectres have been earmarked for the Sugar Development project.
