FACE TO FACE WITH REALITIES OF EDUCATION IN RURAL KEBBI
By Abubakar Kalgo
I was invited by the Chairman of Kalgo local Government Council Hon Shamsu Faruk Kalgo this morning to join him on inspection of primary Schools in the area where I came face to face with the current state of things and realities on ground.
What we saw was heartbreaking, very disturbing and unbelievable. Some structures are completely out of use, some dilapidated with others begging for attention.
Attendance by Staff and Pupils was encouraging in most of the places visited in Kuka and Nayelwa Districts, However, quality and standards of Teachers are equally worrisome.
It was also confirmed that the home grown feeding program has partly been responsible for regular attendance by pupils, therefore the need for it’s continuety is very key.
On this note, I commend the Chairman for identifying with education and making it his topmost area of priority in Kalgo Local Government Area.
