I SPEND MY HOLIDAYS FERRYING ON RIVER NIGER.. FUBK Students reveals.

Abubakar Aliyu is from Yauri in Kebbi State and currently an Undergraduate of History and international Relations, Federal University Birnin Kebbi.

At the end of every academic session, Abubakar goes back to his hometown Yauri to continue with his engagement ; ferrying goods and fishing on the River Niger that passes through the area.

When asked about pursuing both Islamic and Western forms of education simultaneously along with his inherited family tradition ; Abubakar disclosed that University education is made much easier by the Kebbi State Governor Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu with prompt repayment of tuition fees to Students in Tertiary Institutions within and outside the Country.

This gesture keeps most of the Students in Schools without which majority of them would have abandoned their studies owing to obvious reasons. Abubakar added.

An idle mind is devil’s workshop; so unlike others who docile with idleness, non productivity and engage in social vices : Abubakar Aliyu occupies himself daily on his canoe doing what he knows best. (Fishing) to earn a living.

Fishing is one of the most important economic activities in Yauri axis with Fish Mongers and Traders from as far as Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic and other parts of Nigeria trooping on daily basis to make brisk business running into hundreds of Millions Naira.

With it’s multiplayer effects ; Fish business provides opportunities to thousands of people especially youth and women groups, transporters, Cold Room Operators and Food Vendors among others in the Fish Value Chain.

To Abubakar Aliyu : it is passion and tradition driven by commitment, focus and determination to excel.
