Full speech presented by the Director BENNY AND FREDDY LIMITED on the 68th United Nations Conference which held in Birnin Kebbi August 28th 2019
“The commemoration for the 68th United Nations Conference is holding in only one place in Nigeria and that’s where you are! This is the ONLY place in the country this event is holding! The role of youth cannot be overemphasized in Building Sustainable and Inclusive Cities and Communities which happens to be this year’s theme hence the title of our conference is “Youth Voices”.
There is power in numbers! Youth in Africa constituted 19% of the global youth population in 2015, numbering 226 million. The United Nations defines youth as people aged 15 to 24 years. With this shocking statistics, Africa has the youngest population in the world! You all in this room are part of this population!
Young people are full of ideas and potentials that can transform their Nations and the globe starting from their communities and cities. Do not let the voice of poor leadership, unemployment and social vice drown your voice, your ideas and your potentials. Take a look at the world leaders who changed the narrative in their time, they did so at their youth, is it Nelson Mandela, Julius Nyerere of Tanzania of Macron of France? You are so much more. Your voices are needed are important and needed which is why you’re here in the first place.
You’re here because you care about what is going on in the world around you, you’re here because you want a better future for yourself and your children, you’re here because you posses the power to effect that change and that power lies in your voice!
I officially welcome you to this event. Feel free, sit tight and enjoy every bit of it! Be ready to speak and share your ideas because unlike the conventional styles of conference you’d do the brain work as a team, you’d share your opinions on matters that affect you and the you would come up with drafted policy recommendations to the Government of the day, Kebbi State.
You’re welcome once again!
