TEDx Argungu holds August 17 – Organizers

TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events anywhere and everywhere around the world, celebrating locally driven ideas and elevating them to a global state.

TEDxArgungu is a local, independently-organized TED conference slated to happen Kebbi State, bringing together renowned thought-leaders to speak and spark intellectual conversations with its participants. These conversations are centred around; technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business and development.

At its core, the fundamental goal of TED and TEDxArgungu is to foster and spread great ideas within Nigeria and globally by exporting culture, skills and the vast creativity of Nigerians. The ideas and discussions generated from TEDxArgungu will awaken the international community to rising talents within Nigeria and foster the creation of fresh networks within and outside of the country.

We aim to provide a platform where attendees can learn from the experiences of the speakers and be inspired to carve their own path.

TEDxArgungu event will be held at the Presidential Hall, Presidential Lodge, Kebbi State on Saturday, August 17, 2019, between 10:00am and 3:00pm. The theme for Argungu’s first TEDx event is “Uncharted Waters”.

Through TEDxArgungu, the audience will be exposed to speakers who are doing cutting edge work across numerous sectors and causes. These speakers will share their ideas and knowledge in constructive ways to benefit their audience. This will also broaden/alter/challenge their existing knowledge and perspective, and in some cases introduce an entirely new subject that could change people’s lives.

The TED platform has become one of the most innovative conferences and ideas distribution networks, with over 30,000 talks and 100 million views globally. This has opened millions of minds to a different outlook on a number of subjects and popular beliefs.
This will be a good avenue to change certain narratives and also to export our ideas and innovative ways of doing things to a global audience.

Our speakers, who are among the best in their fields have been carefully chosen to deliver an extraordinary blend of topic mastery, performance and skill, and they include:

Mahmud Jega

Mahmud Mohammed Jega
He is the Chairman of the Editorial board of the renowned Daily Trust Nigeria Newspaper. A seasoned journalist with three decades of experience, he is also an author and writer for various exceptional columns both in new media and traditional print media delving on history and current affairs amongst other topics.

Mrs. Kofo Akinkugbe, Managing Director/CEO, SecureID Nigeria
A prize-winning graduate of Mathematics of the University of Lagos, with over 12 years banking experience before venturing into the technology and innovation sector, where she is keen on changing the narrative. She currently serves as a member of the Nigerian Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council, established in May 2017 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a Public/Private sector initiative with a mandate to chart a new path for industrial growth. She also sits on the board of a number of local and multinational corporate, philanthropic and humanitarian organizations

Jelani Aliyu

Jelani Aliyu, MFR
An International Automotive Designer and currently the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Nigeria. He is also the Founder of the Jelani Aliyu Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to innovative social intervention in healthcare, education and environmental sustainability.

Maryam Hassan

Maryam Bukar Hassan, (Alhanislam)
Is a poet and an exponent of the spoken word, who has performed at major festivals and events including the Ake Arts & Book Festival and the Kaduna Book & Arts Festival. Over the years, her work has received critical acclaim, and she recently released her album titled “IN THE HEART OF SILENCE”. As the founder of Deen-at-Heart, an organization that focuses on the moral re-engineering of the youth, she is a renowned motivational speaker, and also an active core member of the creative clan.

Esigie Agueie

Esigie Aguele
Esigie is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of VerifyMe Nigeria, a technology firm specializing in employment history reporting and worker verification solutions for corporate and domestic employers in Nigeria. VerifyMe is redefining the Nigerian workforce through its innovative business solutions; and leading the way in verified worker history reporting, workplace security, and qualification transparency.

Onye Ubanatu

Onye Ubanatu
Is an award winning producer, director, seasoned content creator and creative facilitator, and has worked in a diverse range of television shows, produced documentaries, Local and International events, corporate videos, International News features.


Haruna Hassan Tukur
A 24-year-old entrepreneur from Yauri local government Kebbi state. Who is currently the CEO of Hafaz Integrated Farms Ltd, a 450-hectare farm in Yauri local government Kebbi state, that cultivates rice, maize, sorghum, and soya beans, it also consists of a rice Mill and an oil Mill for value addition. He is providing solutions to the community around the farm, by working with underprivileged to create jobs and educational solutions through his farm.

Fatima Mamza

Fatima Mamza
Trained as a biochemist at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Fatima Mamza has grown to become one of Nigerias’ industry-leading experts in Makeup, skincare and beauty, with over 10 years of experience.
