River Ka is an important geographical feature serving as boarder separating Fakai LGA of Kebbi State and Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State.
The communities on both sides of the river lived in peace for decades.
Not any more. Armed gangs have started to damage the peaceful atmosphere the communities used to enjoy. Incidents of kidnappings for ransom are now on the increase. The authorities of both states are aware of this development but both have taken no adequate response to deal with the brewing crisis.
In response to the rising spate of kidnappings in these isolated communities, villagers are beginning to arm their vigilante groups for self defence. As a result, we are beginning to see a proliferation of arms in the area.
There is a very urgent need for Sokoto and Kebbi states to take adequate measures to deal with the problem before it will balloon out of control.
A stitch in time saves nine.
