Arrangements are being worked out to promote mass cultivation of Castor Seeds and Kenaf in some parts of Kebbi State by the Federation of Agricultural Commodities Association of Nigerian FACAN Kebbi State Chapter in collaboration with Castor and Kenaf Growers Associations and other value chain stakeholders.

This was reached at the end of pre season planning meeting held at FACAN office in Birnin Kebbi recently.

Similarly, consignments of improved castor and Kenaf seeds procured by the the Raw Materials Research and Development Council have formally been presented to the public by the State Coordinator of FACAN Alh Muhammad Hakimi Jiga, Sarkin Noma, commending the Council for its support to farmers in the state.

Ap part of the arrangements, about 200 farmers are being identified to benefit from Free Seeds, Extension support and other farming inputs for this year’s farming season.

Alh Muhammad Hakimi disclosed that so far a number of organisations and commodity off takers have signalled their interests in various commodities from Kebbi State, explaining that modalities are being worked out for mutually beneficial relationships in respect of about 18 agricultural commodities found in commercial quantity across the State.

Also speaking, a National Agricultural Commodity Consultant Dr Usman Hassan disclosed that economics of production EOP is going on for Sesame, Soya Beans, Groundnuts, Bambara nuts, Tiger nuts, Shea nuts, Onions and Garlic, Tomatoes and other perishables as well as various range of livestock and fisheries to ascertain the production capacity, number of farmers, implements required, value addition measures and strategic marketing plan for each commodity.

To this end, the meeting agreed to commence capacity building training on best practices for Castor and Kenaf Farmers early next Month (April 2019) at six designated Centres across the State.

The seeds presentation was attended by Alh Muhammad Hakimi Jiga, Dr Usman Hassan, Alh Muhammad Jabbo Umar MJK, Alh Hamza Yeldu, Alh Usman Dole Kaina and State Secretary of FACAN Abubakar Bagudu Kalgo.
